The 2019 Sierra Debuts a GMC-Exclusive, Industry-First MultiPro Tailgate in Baxley, GA

 

If you're worried this tailgate is too fancy or high-tech for you, you'll be glad to know that it operates initially the same way as the current GMC Sierra. The biggest thing that you notice is that the designers have integrated a new touch pad into the design. You can open or close the MultiPro by pressing a release button on the tailgate itself, a button on the instrument panel, or a button on the remote key fob. The segment's most inventive tailgate uses a torsional spring and a damper to be easily raised and lowered. 

 

Need to haul longer items like plywood or a paddleboard or two? No problem. The MultiPro uses a load stop located at the inner side of the tailgate to prevent objects from sliding out the back of the truck. Folding it upright provides a vertical block for longer items.

 

Lowering the MultiPro's inner gate while the primary gate is also lowered allows you to get 7-9" closer to the truck's bumper for easier access into the bed to arrange and position cargo or to load and unload heavy items. 

 

With the primary and inner gates open at the same time, you can fold down the load stop portion of the inner gate to create a 48" full-width step to allow you to climb into the bed. The step supports a maximum weight of 375 lbs. (170kgs). Additionally, a fold-out handle is mounted on the rear inner corner of the bed on the driver's side to assist in entry and egress. 

 

With the tailgate closed and the inner tailgate open, you can fold the load stop portion of the inner gate to 90 degrees vertical. This helps stop second-tier items from sliding out of the box.
